Men. Dating after 40, or not, or whatever this is called…

For the first year of my separation, I was not interested.  I mean, not even mildly.  I was really bereft, and while I did begin to acknowledge what a poor experience I have had in marriage, I still missed that man a whole lot, and had to let go of all the love I had been holding.  Still working on that.

But, as my birthday rolled around at the year and a half mark, I wanted to tackle some of those firsts… first date, first kiss, first sackrace. 🙂

0202180846.jpgSo, I turned on Tinder.  Yes, I did.  My first photo was a picture of my silverware drawer, because i didn’t want anyone in my town to suddenly be aware that I was dating.  And, Tinder, it isn’t a fast track to loose sex or anything…well, not for me… but it definitely did get me a lot of text sex. And man, that was titillating.  It was one of the things I realized had been going on during my marriage, ( i mean, not for me, but whatever….) and man, it was more powerful than I had realized, as a time consumer and an emotional outlay.   I had to smoke cigarettes just to handle the flood of sexy thoughts I was having…

I still say thats a problem. and today i haven’t had any cigarettes. and i’m all fidgety, and likely to pick a fight… but i’m surrounded by kids, so that makes me a little bit of an asshole. damn. and i’d really like a glass of wine. but you know what goes really great with a glass of wine?  oh, yeah, sweetness of smoky….

and what to do with all that fidget? and that, uh, ‘energy’? yep. tv. the deadener of all things.

today is tuesday. my kids are with their dad for four whole hours. and i can watch tv that doesn’t have fortnite all over it. so i leap.

wineless, almost. (ha! See what i did there?!)

FEAR, or Running in the Rings

0421181735_Burst01.jpgJust been set adrift on the monkey mind fuck of being worried about money.  EXbubs says I will need a full time job this fall because money is too tight for him, and i hear that, and i need my own, reliable benefits, because i am tired of arriving at the pharmacy just to be told they’ve lapsed again….  but it means changing jobs, and possibly childcare and more and more changes, and facing the vulnerability of an unsteady financial life…. and i’m just having a hard time reigning in my overactive imagination/adrenalin kick.  when you’re having an adrenalin surge and you’re just sitting on your ass in front of a typewriter, your body gets all out of whack, and there is no processed food that is safe.

what am i going to do ?  how am i going to make ends meet?  do i have to sell this house? is that really the most practical thing, honestly? grrgh.

its not that good a day to be trying to cut down on the cigarettes. is it now?

There’s been something in the air for me lately too, because i’ve been whacked out for more than just this money thing.  I even called the doctor and asked about upping my antidepressant dosage… I’m sort of wondering if its just simply the spring, the ‘love is in the air’ bling of nature… and how it feels so opposite to where i am right now, this very minute.  i wonder.

so there.

Sure, fine.

Somehow it occurred to me yesterday that people probably think i’m fine because i’m dating again.  that, somehow, the dissolution of a decade-long committment to love and family has been made up in the 8 months i’ve been venturing out into frenchkissland.  (it is definitely fun there. i mean, my god… )  but i’ve been realizing more and more how {unprepared? unwilling? hesitant? reluctant? } all of those… i’m so much of them.  so i can tell you all about the amazing sex i’ve had, the bewildering conversations, the birth control issues, all about those things, and it is funny and0212181941.jpg sweet, almost all of it. . . but some days there really feels like a ittybitty boat is sitting atop some murky and important reservoir of ‘don’t look here’…

The Journey Begins, Pete and Repeat in a Boat.

You know, I used to write a blog. I did, for ages.

I started it, years ago, to keep track of how often my partner at the time was drinking. yes, i really did.  I thought if i could see how often it really was, then I would be less likely to believe him when he said it wasn’t really that often, and that I was becoming obsessed.  It didn’t really work, after all.

Well, thats a brilliant reason to write. brilliant.  So i cut that out, and eventually, him too.  But, had three kids along the way, and that ain’t nobody’s funny business. But, of course, its full of hysteria and comedy and drama and all the stuff that you already know. . . plus, profanity.

which is pretty much what my writing was. and I liked it, a lot. and I liked my people.

But I’m on a mission to be wary of repetition now.  And to trust my intuition, because that is a big one.  Since I’m not focused as much on alcohol these days, and have all this space to myself… intuition is a powerful rider on my body.  And I want to keep it flying.

There is a lot here, and I’ve got more. and I wish you well, so well, and that’s part of my new story too.
